Situated on the slopes of Mt. Kenya, the New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative Society members typically manage 200–250 trees on small plots in nutrient-rich volcanic soil, often located up to 1,850 meters above sea level. This terroir makes for a truly complex coffee that is still balanced and approachable.

Founded in 1997 in Kirinyaga County, New Ngariama Farmers Cooperative unites 1,800–2,200 smallholders committed to exceptional, traceable coffee. With farmers averaging 57 years old and cultivating 1–2 acre plots with low-yield trees, the future of Kenyan coffee depends on sustaining these generations. That’s why the Cooperative reinvests in its community—delivering better returns while supporting education and essential farming needs.

SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru 11

Kenya’s iconic SL-28 and SL-34 varieties deliver bright acidity and complex, fruit-forward flavors that define the origin’s world-class profile. Modern cultivars like Batian and Ruiru 11 bring higher yields and strong resistance to disease without sacrificing cup quality. Together, they create a dynamic balance of heritage flavor and forward-thinking resilience in every cup.

PROCESSING

Washed

Ripe cherries are hand-sorted and floated to select only the densest, highest-quality beans before depulping. The cooperative utilizes traditional Kenyan double-soak methods, involving 12–24 hours of fermentation, washing, a second 24-hour soak. Finally, the beans are slowly dried for 9-13 days on raised beds, preserving a clean, balanced, and expressive cup.
